How to connect Pokémon GO to Scarlet and Violet and send postcards

The February 2023 Pokémon Presents certainly brought with it many new features. One of these is the connectivity between Pokémon GO and ninth generation titles Scarlet and Violet on Nintendo Switch. A connectivity that certainly generated curiosity in users.

And that, on the one hand, is nothing new. Indeed, the mobile game had the possibility of connecting already with Let’s GO Pikachu and Eevee, and in the eighth generation through the third Pokémon HOME software. In this way it was possible to send Pokémon from GO to HOME, and then to Nintendo Switch, also obtaining a special reward.

But what does this connectivity consist of now that Paldea is among us?

Important note: remember that to make the connection is necessary a Nintendo Account.

What do you get

window.RTBuzz.cmd.push(“masthead1”);To reiterate the important difference raised above, this generation Pokémon GO can link directly to your personal copy of Scarlet or Violet. A substantial difference compared to the eighth generation, where the connection to Sword and Shield took place only via Pokémon HOME.

However another substantial difference lies in the object of the passage so to speak. Given the current “gaps” of Pokémon GO, whose Pokédex does not fully cover any generation from the fifth onwards, it will not be possible to send Pokémon directly to the Switch. The object of exchange are therefore the postcards.

These are the same ones that are automatically attached to the friendship packages, in turn obtainable by spinning photo discs of PokéStops or Gyms in Pokémon GO. By sending them to Switch, both platforms get in-game items, specifically:

  • the copy of Scarlet or Violet will get a golden package containing some Gimmighoul coins and one other item; they can also meet during the same day Vivillon with a particular pattern (in game areas where the Pokémon is available)
  • Pokémon GO will get a refilling the Gimmighoul Coin Purse per day, and more rarely a Golden Lure Module

Connect Pokémon GO to Pokémon Scarlet or Violet

It will first be necessary to connect the two platforms together, directly from within the games. Another key step is activate the Bluetooth connection on the mobile phone.

window.RTBuzz.cmd.push(“insideposttop2”);In Pokémon GO settings (accessed via the Pokéball shaped button) you need to select Connected devices and services. Then continue with Nintendo Switch and with Sign in Nintendo.

After signing in on the Nintendo website, a new screen will appear. From here the account on Switch will be linked, using the “Link Nintendo Switch” button. Before pressing it, you need to switch to the Nintendo hybrid.

By bringing the console into Online mode (L button from the pause menu), you must then access the Poképortal and following to Secret Gift inside.

A new entry will have appeared here “Connect to Pokémon GO“. It is through this that the Switch can be connected to the mobile phone.

window.RTBuzz.cmd.push(“topmobile”);By clicking on this new item, a menu appears with two choices (in the screenshot below three since there is already a connected account). What interests us is Register a Pokémon GO account. The console will ask for confirmation to connect, after which it will proceed to search for the mobile account.

If the mobile on which you play Pokémon GO does not have Bluetooth active, it will not be detected by the console.

At this point, simply go back to Pokémon GO and use the button Connect Nintendo Switch. As soon as the console has detected the mobile phone, the game is done! The two accounts are linked.

Send postcards

At this point we remain on Pokémon GO to properly send the postcard.

window.RTBuzz.cmd.push(“middlemobile1”);This clearly requires that saved at least one postcard first in your profile Album (and that, in turn, you have at least one friend in the game). Access your profile to check who has sent you parcels. Press on a friend and then on the package he sent you but do not redeem it. Instead, press the pushpin button in the lower right corner.

Postcard is saved! Now you can go back to the main profile page.

Here you select Postcard album. If you have saved others you will know that they all appear here, but how to send them to the Switch?

With Bluetooth still active, simply click on postcard and then on the button with thehamburger icon. A small menu will open with only two choices. One allows you to remove the postcard from the album, the other is the one you need (the text overflows the mobile screen).

window.RTBuzz.cmd.push(“middlemobile2”);Confirming the connection to the Switch console, and from this by clicking on the item Connect to Pokémon GO in the same menu previously discussed, the link is activated. That’s all!

Once the procedure is completed, the Switch console should have received a golden package, and on Pokémon GO the Gimmighoul Coin Purse is displayed with a notification of its recharge.

window.RTBuzz.cmd.push(“native”);
