Strategy

Let’s start with a premise: Malenia is most likely the most difficult battle present in Elden Ring and perhaps the most difficult boss present in the From Sotware souls. The reason is obvious given that Malenia, in addition to being a formidable opponent, takes care of every hit scored and has two phases, both very dangerous.
Given the scale of the battle, be prepared to lose numerous times and only go with an endgame character at full strength.
During the first phase Malenia will fight with her sword and will challenge you in a match of pure skill. Absolutely avoid parrying as the boss heals even if you parry his attacks and always prefer dodging. Fortunately, many of his attacks are quite predictable and you should be able to dodge them without too much trouble.
The biggest problem starts when below 75% he starts using his unique technique: the Water Dance. This technique is very dangerous and can easily catch you given the incredible number of hits. In this case, the previous advice is canceled and you can parry yourself if you don’t know when to dodge and want to avoid a quick death.
Sure you will allow the boss to heal himself but at least during the first few attempts you will have a clear idea of how his main shot works. Dodging it is extremely difficult, at least the first few times, given the large number of hits that require more dodges calculated to the thousandth of a second and it is often preferable to either stay away or cushion the damage with a shield.
In any case, you will be able to recognize the beginning of the attack when you see the boss jump and remain stationary in mid-area for a few seconds, allowing you to choose the best strategy to counterattack according to your position with respect to her.
A great method recently discovered for avoiding Water Dance altogether consists in throwing a freezing vessel at the boss when it remains still in mid-air. In this way the boss will incredibly return to the ground avoiding all that is the most powerful attack of him.
After seeing the strengths of an opponent who seems unbeatable except for the strongest fighters it must be said that Malenia also has her weaknesses. The most important is certainly the lack of balance. Malenia is a light character who focuses on agility so a series of well-placed shots can stop her combos and allow you to inflict serious damage.
Weapons with bleeding or freezing are highly recommended as you will be able to take a lot of life out of them by hitting several shots in sequence. Among the armaments that can change the bossfight certainly excel the Blood Rivers sword and the Brine Stomp ash.
A devastating spell against her is Swarm of Flies, as it will stun her and help you in inflicting bleeding status. Having this skill on your side will make a huge difference as it will allow you to take advantage of her two weaknesses.
Among the characters that can be summoned useful to simplify the battle it is necessary to specify that this time too Tyche, the Black Blade, will be more useful than Reflected Tear. In addition to having greater dodging ability, Tyche will inflict serious damage on Malenia with her final blow, making her preferable to Tear in this fight.
However, great care must be taken to summon spirits as Malenia can also heal by hitting them.
This time, even the ranged characters will not have an easy life as Malenia will dodge most of the spells you throw at her, requiring the distraction of a spirit to hit her with a greater number of hits.

Once you pass the first phase, things will get even worse as Malenia will transform and add other lethal attacks to her moveset.
The first, which you will see immediately at the beginning of the second phase, is it Blooming of Rotting, an attack in which the boss charges up and then hits you with an explosion whose shape resembles that of a flower. Suffering this attack or coming into contact with its petals shortly after the fault is equivalent to certain death or, in the best of cases, to great damage suffered, not to mention that you will be quickly infected by Scarlet Rots.
Thankfully, this attack is easily dodged given its long loading time. As soon as you see the boss getting ready, easily guessed given the unique animation, get away from her. Paradoxically, her best attack represents for Malenia one of the moments in which she is most easily hit as she will remain on the ground for a long time.
Clearly you will have to hit it with objects from a distance to not take damage from the Rotting but in case you are characters with ranged attacks you will have an excellent window to hit it.
The other noteworthy attack besides the Blossom of Rotten is the blow with which Malenia throws at you 5 copies of it. This attack is very dangerous and you will have to dodge the blows to the millimeter given the damage caused and the consecutive blows you will suffer.
Once you are aware of these two new moves, the rest of the battle will be identical to the first phase we have already talked about previously. Be very careful, be cautious and in the end you will get the victory.
In any case we are talking about the most difficult bossfight of the game so several attempts will be necessary since with enemies of this caliber no guide will be better than direct experience on the field.
Rewards
After defeating the boss you will get the following rewards:
- 480,000 Runes
- Great Rune of Malenia
- Remembrance of the Goddess of Rotting
